Buddha's and Rusty Diamonds - Through my Looking Glass - 27 April 2011

Oh look, she is blogging again. Seems like forever since I put fingers to keys and words on a screen. Well the wait is over, you can all breath again. Welcome to this week's episode of 'Through my looking glass'. This week we explore the ins and outs of temples, tin cups, junk en "Vrot Vis".

I spent my freedom day (or at least I think it was freedom day) photowalking. Or rather photo road tripping. By the time I got home I noticed I had driven almost 300km there and back. I sit and I chuckle at the words "freedom day"... Freedom day seems to hold more than one meaning! A Candice Day. :-) A day for me and a day for others. Sharing is Caring.

The morning started at Doppio for breakfast with myself. Then when the rest of the gang arrived it was the looong drive to the Nan Hua Buddhist Temple. What a beauty, Kelso took one look at the images and asked if I went to Panda's (Kung Fu Panda) house. Suddenly it seems like I was not bordering a boerewors curtain! After some crazy wide angle big nose photo's by Craig, (what a laugh. You never think you look ridiculous until you see a photo like that of yourself.)  ahem... we headed to Cullinan. A long potholed drive. Luckily I had some Joy Division playing loudly to keep me company.

A little world within the world. I kept on thinking I was in the Freestate. Yet I was so far removed. We had lunch at some pub like place. I won't even pretend I know the name because it would be a total lie. Being a little unsure of my surroundings and juding a place by the look of the menu, i opted for meat free and totally thankful for my decision to not go for the fishy fish. Blew that popstand and headed off to what is probably the main road there, where all the action happens. A road of tin cups, Potty's, old sinks and plates. There was a lot of appealing junk there. And a barn place that knocked my socks off!

The last stop was Sammy Marks. Sammy marks has some amazing old outbuildings that make for some rather interesting images. The photowalkers scavenged off a Wedding couple creative shoot and it was very much a highlight.

So in short after the 500 000 words, I can say that this day out made my heart sing and I look forward to another exciting adventure of photowalking with amazing company, many laughs and good fun!

Stay tuned for the next exciting episode of 'Through my looking Glass'. Scenes from the next episode may feature miss Josephine and the Travelling shoes. Little Miss still needs to hop in the handbag and explore the world as little pink pig did before it became a fluffy toddler chew toy.

May your days be filled with love, happiness, sugar, spice and many many blessings! This is Candice Peetz, signing off!!

Barbie and the Robot Revolution - 12 April 2011

I really cannot resist figurines and toys. It saddens me that every time I open a Kinder-egg, the toys inside leave so much to be desired. What happened to the smurfs? What happened to the toys that you had to put together? And why on earth do you only get spinning tops that make you go squint just from looking at them. Could it be the recession? Or could it be that mediocrity is celebrated and given a high five because no one really cares anymore about good quality things because.... I will stop there because this is not intended to offend anyone!! *insert sweet smile* :-)

Kelso's love for figurines has opened up many doors for me, firstly because he has such amazingly expensive taste for the good stuff, but also because his Dad satisfies all his little desires so I have lots to play with and photograph...

The Gothic barbie is a Begoth doll. A little gem found in a random gift store. I really wish I got more. But when I got her, I didn't think photographing toys would be a favourite pass-time.  Her name is Ivana Scream. I believe she is a 4th generation Begoth. I do stand to be corrected. She used to stand on my desk at work, but children who accompanied their parents to work, always wanted to take her clothes off and Ivana is just not into that. She likes her leather coat and big black boots to be on her, and not lying on the floor.

The robots are only a few of the many that Kelso owns. Below is Astro Boy, Blue Core, Red Core and then another one with a name I cannot remember. It could have been beeglebog for all I know. They are all in character and the Blue core always wins. In the movie, "Astro boy", the Blue Core is the positive energy and the Red Core is the destructive negative energy. Astro Boy is powered by the Blue Core energy and so they fight the red core together. It has the most wonderful message in there. A must see. It really is. Just shows that negativity is so last season. It is a wonder that some of the most fashionable buy into it. *ahem* where was I?

And last but not least, I need to introduce you all to "Mommy". If Kelso asks for Mommy and he isn't asking for me, he is asking for the hot blonde in the leather outfit (do they really make these toys for children?). He enjoys nothing more than taking her hands off, and I quite enjoy getting her to pose for me. She is part of the Action Man collection I think.

Before I get too deep and go on about what could be perceived as "pie in the sky" nonsense, because I am in the mood to write some... this is Candice Peetz, signing off!

Exhibitionists and Dirty Rascals - 10 April 2011

It is Sunday evening and I cannot believe this week end is over. Where the heck did it go? We have been to Durban and back and spent the day out in Joburg all in 3 days. The orb button broke, so there has been alot of driving, sleeping and walking in these past few days. It has been wonderful and so heart broken that it is back to "life as we know it" tomorrow. I guess the nice thing about Monday's is that you get to appreciate the week end just gone and the time spent with family and friends.

George was pleased that we got to have our usual Saturday europa breakfast on a Sunday. Since Kelso was away, we visited less child friendly places, but missed the nice coffee and good health breakfast. After that was a swing swing and then a drive down town. Kelso had an absolute ball. my little city slicker. Behaved so well and shook his little tail like it was the last time he ever could, he did run into some wire which resulted in tears and early exit though. =D. He really liked Arts on Main too. He was well excited to see grass and dogs.

Today was the opening of the Joburg Photowalkers Exhibition at 12 Decades hotel. ALOT of work has gone into this exhibition and well done to all the people involved. It was well executed and every single image up on those walls were spectacular. Such amazing images on display and I sincerely hope that each photographer is proud of the work produced. I know I am.

Background to the title - George said to Kelso "Mommy is an exhibitionist", Kelso responded - "hehehe, Mommy is a dirty Rascal".

I hope whoever gets to read this had a great week end and I wish all a wonderful week ahead. Until next time, this is Candice Peetz, signing off!

over.... and.... out!!
